Alta Savage Cox, 84, of Carthage, Texas died October 8, 2005 in Longview, Texas. She was born December 29, 1920 in Yoakum, Texas to Charles W. Savage and Hattie Douglas Taylor Savage. She attended Bertram Schools and Baylor University. Alta married Theodore Inman Cox on Sept. 17, 1939 and together they celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death in 1990. Alta and Theo owned and operated a shrimp boat in Palacios for many years. She was a member of Central Baptist church where she enjoyed singing with the Silvertone Choir. Alta, a respected seamstress loved to sew, quilt and play "88", although her greatest joy came from serving others. She was preceded in death by one sister, Charlsie McCoy.
She is survived by a sister, Emmabel Goolsby of Carthage; niece Judy Preston of Leander; one grand niece, three grand nephews and numerous great grand nieces and nephews; by her devoted friends who called her Grandma Alta, Pat and Tommy Ellis of Palacios and Alta Jean Barnett.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Palacios Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are with Palacios Funeral Home. 361-972-2012.
