Alan Rost Sherrill, 74, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Alan was born in Wharton, Texas, to the late Willis Marion Sherrill and Annie Balusek Sherrill. He attended Boling High School and married the love of his life, Margaret Hagaman Sherrill, in 1973. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and the values of hard work and community.
Alan enjoyed a long and successful career in the crane and heavy equipment industry. He began as a crane operator with Dunn Equipment, later served as an equipment sales manager for Maxim Crane, and retired in 2018 from Dunn Heat Exchangers.
An avid outdoorsman, Alan had a lifelong passion for hunting, but his greatest enthusiasm was rodeo. He served as President of the Matagorda County Youth Rodeo Association from 1987 to 1989. In the 1990s, he and several friends founded the Matagorda County Roping Club, creating opportunities for experienced calf ropers to mentor local youth and help grow the sport.
Nothing brought Alan more joy than spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in rodeos and loved every opportunity to be with them. He also enjoyed many years of camping and making lasting memories with family and friends in Port Aransas.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by an infant son, Sheridan Curt Sherrill; and his sisters, Jimmy Jenkins and Mona Christine Stavinoha.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Margaret Hagaman Sherrill; his daughter, Samantha Sherrill Marshall and husband, Chad; his son, Todd Alan Sherrill and wife, Misty; his brother, Willis "Buddy" Sherrill and wife, Kathy; and his beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie Marion Marshall, Kyle Samuel Marshall, Addyson Elaine Sherrill, Brayden Hunter Sherrill, and Cassidy Dawn Sherrill.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Samuel Marshall, Brayden Hunter Sherrill, Daniel Hagaman, Michael Sherrill, Craig Kucera, and Matt Lawhorn.
