Obituary

Alan A. (Andy) Anderson, of Sargent, TX, passed away on July 14, 2006 after a 2-year battle with sarcoma cancer. Andy was born in Stoneham, Mass., on July 30, 1928. He graduated from Stoneham High School in 1946, where he lettered in ice hockey and managed the basketball team. From hitchhiking cross-country to spending a season skiing in Sun Valley, Andy embraced every opportunity life afforded him. He proudly served his country for 5 years in the US Air Force as a jet pilot instructor, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. During this time he met Nelda, his soul mate and partner in adventure. In 1956 he graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Andy founded Anderson Electrical Construction, an industrial electrical construction company, in Houston in 1980. After his first retirement, he returned to work to help build the Fred Hartman Bridge, one of the longest freestanding suspension bridges in the world. His second retirement led to ten years of RV travel around the U.S. and Canada with wife and grandchildren in tow, Little League games, dance and piano recitals, football games, casino trips, and family time on Caney Creek.

Andy is preceded in death by his parents Florence and Anders Gunnar Anderson, brother Carl Anderson and special cousin Mary J. Anderson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nelda Kelly Anderson; son Mark and wife Lisa; daughter Karen Anderson Duncan; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Haley and Jack Anderson. The loss of this remarkable man will be shared by many.
