On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, Abe M. Stevens, Jr., loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 84.
Abe was born on August 11, 1937 in Pledger, TX to Abe Sr. and Myrtle (Pierson) Stevens. He graduated from Van Vleck High School in 1957 and served one enlistment in the U.S. Army. On September 8, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart Miss Charlotte Ann Boyd. They raised one son, Neal, and one daughter, Lisa.
Abe and Charlotte settled in Cedar Lane, Texas in 1964. Abe joined Dow Chemical, progressing from operator to carpenter craftsman, and ended his career after 33 years as a supervisor in 1994.
In retirement, Abe established a second career as a rancher. He went on to manage livestock for 25 more years.
Abe was a faithful and dedicated husband. He was tireless with domestic projects and upkeep around the house. He loved his wife and was quick to attend to her needs and wants.
Abe was a consistent role model for his children. He set an example for honesty, caring, and responsibility. Abe loved his son and daughter and was always there for them as they grew throughout their lives. There was never any doubt that they were important to him.
Abe enjoyed working and the outdoors. He was always there to help a neighbor who might have a faulty water well pump, needed some carpenter work, or help clearing trees after a storm. Included among his hobbies throughout his life were hunting, shrimping and offshore fishing, motorcycles, reading, flying an ultralite aircraft, scuba diving, and camper touring in Alaska. Over his life Abe visited many states and countries, including trips to Denmark, Germany, France, Russia, and Hawaii.
Abe was preceded in death by his father, Abe, Sr, and his mother, Myrtle, and brothers Frank, Ned, Jack, and sister Tece. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his son, Neal, daughter Lisa, son-in-law Ken, granddaughters Victoria, Valerie, Lishelle, Natasha, and Kelly, and one great-granddaughter, Olivia, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Cedar Lane Baptist Church, 2:00 PM. Internment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers are Otto Teglmeyer, Marcus Moss, Raymond Brooker, Paul Hill , Sr., Matt Ashcraft and Rick O'Neal, Jr.
