Rebecca (Becky) Sue Griffith, 58, of Bay City, Texas passed away in Richmond, Texas on Thursday, May 31, 2012. She was born June 30, 1953, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, to the late Joe C. and Nellie Harrison Griffith. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City, starting in the nursery, kindergarten department and attended Sunday School and church regularly, She joined the church in 1969. She attended the Opportunity Center for the Retarded, which was founded by her mother, at the age of 5. She took tap dancing, baton twirling, and Red Cross swimming lessons where she passed her life saving course. She was in Special Olympics and went to State in swimming, track, and bowling, winning a number of trophies. In 1981, she went to live at the Cullen Residence Hall in Houston, Texas. She attended classed and worked in the workshop for the mentally retarded. She was a member of the Girl Scouts, and went on many camping trips. She also won many awards. She loved music, dancing, and performing on the stage. She was very outgoing and loved everyone. She returned to Bay City on June 16, 2003, lived at The Legacy, and attended the Edith Armstrong Center. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Kay Kaspar and husband Paul of Ganada, Texas , and her brother Joe Frank Griffith of Bay City. Nephews; Jason Kaspar, Lance Griffith & wife Kimberly , Dirk Griffith & wife Brooke, niece Megan Griffith & fiancé Cole Komar , Great-Niece, Anna Griffith and Evann Griffith; Great-Nephew, Chase Griffith, a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many friends. Visitation will be from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. on Sunday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M. on Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City , Texas with Rev. Dr. Mark Stoub officiating. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Dirk Griffith, Larry Harrison, David Harrison, Lance Griffith, Jason Kaspar, Tommy Harrison, George Harrison and Diane Harrison. Honorary pallbearers , C. L. Cook, Megan Griffith, and John Harrison. The family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bay City, American Cancer Society, Matagorda County ARC, P.O. Bozx 1305, Bay City, Texas 77404, or donor’s choice. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in charge of arrangeme.
